The BLDGBLOG‘s Drains of Canada: An Interview with Michael Cook showcases Cook’s stunning photographs, also found on his own Vanishing Point, of the northland’s subterranean infrastructure. David L. Pike‘s Metropolis on the Styx: The Underworlds of Modern Urban Culture, 1800–2001, which will be out this fall, is a companion volume to his Subterranean Cities: both books show that this fascination with the city beneath the city is a cultural preoccupation of long standing.
